Over 100 students packed the Back Lakes Sports Arena in Red Earth Creek for the Second Annual Peace Country Robotics Tournament April 15. Twelve teams from Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council [KTC], Northland School Division [NSD[, Conseil scolaire du Nord-Ouest [CSNO] and Peace River School Division [PRSD] traveled from all across the Peace Region to test their robotics knowledge. In this competition, students utilized Lego equipment to build and program robots. In the Kindergarten to Grade 2 division, students were using the Lego Wedo kits. During the tournament, judges evaluated each team on organizational skills, teamwork, robot construction and program function. In Grades 3-12, teams competed in line follower races and sumo matches. The line follower race is a timed event and challenges students to aim for a fast time while programming robots to stay on the oval or elliptical course. The objective of the sumo match is for the robots to search for each other and then push their opponent out of the designated arena.
