The senior volleyball teams at Georges P. Vanier attended the Peace Classic invitational in Peace River on November 9 & 10, but they came home without medals.

The girls’ team came away with 3-2 record, placing second in their pool and being eliminated by La Crete later. But Coach Melodie Schaefer is proud of their performance.

“They still played well and they’re a young team,” says Schaefer. “So it will take time.”

The boys’ team came away with a 2-3 record, losing to Peace Wapiti Academy in the quarter finals. But their coach remains upbeat.

“They had moments where they were really, really strong,” says Coach Pam Heckbert. “So that was great.”

However, this wasn’t the end of the season for either team. This past weekend, the girls’ team went to Peace River for zones, while the boys’ team went to High Prairie for their zones.

Look for a story about both teams’ zones in next week’s paper.

Also, the basketball season will start in the near future. Look for team photos in the Smoky River Express in the near future.
