Seniors’ Week is an annual event held during the first full week of June, celebrated this year from June 3 to June 9.

Apart from the contributions seniors have made throughout their lives, they also continue to play an important role in their communities through church groups, charitable organizations and various kinds of volunteering, so it is certainly appropriate to designate a week in their honour and to acknowledge their continuing contributions.

Smoky River FCSS, the Town of McLennan, the Village of Donnelly, the Town of Falher and the MD of Smoky River No. 130 are sponsoring Special Seniors’ Teas in the four municipalities in the region.

The special tea events take place at Manoir du Lac in McLennan on June 4, Cub des Pionniers in Donnelly June 5, Villa Beausejour Falher June 6 and Club Etoile in Girouxville June 7. Events begin at 2pm at all four venues.

Live musical entertainment will also be a part of each senior’s tea with the tentative line up being Gerard Dubois and his group at the Villa Beausejoir. Nellie Montpellier and Phil Dube will perform in Donnelly and Gerry Stout at Manoir du Lac.

The entertainment at Club Etoile in Girouxville has yet to be announced.

Everyone is invited to attend these events to celebrate seniors and usually the Mayors and other council members attend also.

“We always try and find the oldest person at each tea to cut the cake,” says organizer Jean Moore Lemoine, Smoky River FCSS.
