There were four very excited and proud Grade 6 students at Ecole Providence when McLennan Royal Canadian Legion #153 members Yvonne Sawchyn and Sylvie D’Aoust dropped by the school to announce the winners of the Legion’s Remembrance Day art and poetry competitions.
The annual, regional competitions are held across Canada and each Royal Canadian Legion branch invites all schools in their area to participate.
The students are asked to create a Remembrance Day themed artwork or poem in three categories: a black and white poster, a coloured poster and poetry.
The winners of the competition are Zahara Rempel 1st place black and white category, Emily Soucy 2nd place in the black and white category, Ishra Islam 1st place coloured poster category and Mary Katherine Jordan 1st place in the poetry category.
The winners of the competition each received a cheque for $35.
