Flyers hand Pirates a 5-3 loss

The Falher Pirates hosted the Fort St. John Flyers in the evening of November 24, and the Flyers won the game by a score of 5-3. The Pirates travelled to Fort St. John on December 1 for their next game.

The Fort St. John Flyers handed the Falher Pirates another loss on November 24, winning the game 5-3.

Nonetheless Coach Sheldon Gervais was upbeat about the game.

“It was a good game, fast paced,” says Gervais.

“Clean and hard hitting, it was a great game for fans. It could have gone either way.”

The game opened promising for the Pirates, as Brian Sommers back-handed the puck into the net at 6:20, with Jeff Chalifoux and Trevor Tokarz assisting.

However, at 11:10, Adam Horst scored a power play goal for the Flyers and Jeff Shipton assisted.

Nonetheless, the Pirates had the last word of the first period. At 16:09, Dallas Brochu slipped the puck into the net on the approach and Dakota Mason and Rocky Collins assisted.

It looked like the Flyers would hold the initiative in the second period, as Reid Campbell scored a power play goal just 20 seconds in. Shipton received his second assist, and Rick Cleaver received one as well.

Then Tanner LeSann scored the team’s third goal at 8:46, slipping the puck into the net. Steven Fast and Robbie Sindhu assisted.

But the Pirates tied the score at 9:44, with Darren Brochu scoring the team’s third goal. Dallas Brochu and Brian Sommers received the assists.

The game was up for grabs in the third period, as each team struggled for control of the puck.

However, in the end, the Flyers managed to put the puck in the net twice.

Adam Horst put the puck in the net at 2:21 on a rebound shot. Cleaver and Joey Massingham shared the spotlight with him.

Then, with less than two minutes remaining, the Pirates pulled their goalie and put an extra attacker on the ice. However, Sindhu scored the Flyers’ fifth and final goal on an empty net at 19:01.

The game ended 5-3 in favour of the Flyers. Total shots on net for the game were 51-40 in favour of the Flyers.
