Members of Smoky River Fire and Rescue conducted a training exercise at the Girouxville Hotel in the evening of Sept. 27.

Training was conducted to familiarize the firefighters with the building,” says Fire Chief Marcel Maure.

A smoke machine was used on the second floor, there were room searches and casualties had to be removed from the building.

A ladder was used for one rescue, and firefighters had to remove another person by hand.

The training lasted about one hour.

This kind of training falls under pre-planning, so firefighters know what to do when they arrive on scene.

National Fire Prevention Week is October 8-14 and activities will be held at the new fire hall in Falher from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 14.
