Fire department gets 23 calls for service in May

Smoky River Fire and Rescue received 23 calls for service in May.

Fire chief Marcel Maure discussed his report with the M.D. council during their meeting on June 8. The calls for service consisted of:

. 10 medical responses.
. Five outdoor fires.
. Four suspicious odors or gas.
. Two false alarms.
. One STARS landing.
. One motor vehicle collision on the higway.

The M.D. of Smoky River No. 130 issued a fire ban on May 2, which was followed by a provincial ban on May 7.

Both bans were lifted on May 21.

In May, Smoky River Fire and Rescue sent two groups to handle wildfires. One group went to High Level and the other went to Fox Creek. The fire chief reminds the public to call 911 for any emergency or 310-FIRE for wildfires.
