Parent Link

Family and Community Support Services – In Focus

Georgia Dubois
Director
Smoky River FCSS

What is Parent Link and why is it important to our region?

Prairie Parent Link Centre provides Early Childhood Development Services, Developmental Screening Services, Family Support Services, Parent Education Services and information and Referral Services for families of children ages 0-6. At this time, Smoky River Family and Community Support Services was not provided any of this funding, which leaves somewhat of a gap for this region.

Provincial funding for Prairie Parent Link has been allocated to High Prairie, with funding available for a worker in the Smoky River Region.

Some of the services that are provided by this worker are:

. Ages & Stages Developmental Screening;

. Parents N Tots for parents and children ages 0-5 with play based learning groups designed to improve five areas of development and build healthy relationships;

. Play & Learn with learning centres of activities that are prepared for you to enjoy with your child(ren);

. Taming the Dragon which is preschool and school based program to improve emotional maturity, communication skills and social competence;

. Toy & Resource Library where members can borrow age appropriate toys, games, DVD’s, books, learning tools, etc. for up to two weeks;

. Parent Education;

. Understanding Child Development;

. 1234 Parents;

. Love and Logic;

. Triple P Parenting Group; Family Support; access for families and children in need to free donated clothing, winter apparel, accessories, equipment, toys etc.

Again, provincial funding has been allocated to the Prairie Parent Link based out of High Prairie, for a worker for the Smoky River region.
