Smoky River Family and Community Support Services – In Focus

Summer is almost behind us as the leaves begin to change color and the days become shorter! But, fall brings new activities and happenings.
For those of you who enjoy a home cooked meal with good conversation, we will have Conversation Corner along with Senior’s Bowling – in Girouxville. This is a great time to come out and visit, challenge yourself with Brain Quizzers and lots of laughter!
Sometimes we will have music and other times we will have some special guests bringing you the latest in health matters and government programs.
Thanks to the wonderful musicians who volunteer their time, we will begin the 10th year of Ol’ Tyme Family Nite, a night of music and laughter for people of all ages and all walks of life. This event takes place at the Elk’s Hall in McLennan on the second and last Friday of the month with a potluck being held on the last Friday.
Keep your eyes focused and save the date on your calendars for the 10th anniversary event that will be taking place January 27, 2017 tickets will be limited to 175 and are forecasted to be available in November 2016!
And, we will have the Christmas Voucher Program again this year – a program that will enhance the lifestyle of those in need while encouraging their independence.
Another exciting program that will be taking off in the fall will be our Home Supports Program. This program enables residents of the Smoky River to stay in their homes longer by providing assistance with light housekeeping, light meal preparation and companionship! Contact Jean at the office today to find out more information on how to sign up and qualify for this amazing program!!
The Smoky River Transportation Program will see the addition of a trip to Slave Lake once a month, along with the regular trips to Grande Prairie and Peace River.
Our region is very fortunate to have this program graciously supported by our 5 municipalities of the region; M.D. of Smoky River, Town of McLennan, Village of Donnelly, Town of Falher and Village of Girouxville.
This program is an affordable way for our residents to access out of town medical appointments while offering the option for our wheelchair bound residents to also have the options of travel. If you would like to receive a three-month schedule contact our office today and our staff will be more than happy to add your address to our mail out list.
We will also offer other events throughout the coming year. So please feel free to come out and join us for any of the activities mentioned. Watch for our calendars on our Facebook page or call Smoky River FCSS at (780) 837-2220 for more information.
Remember that you are never alone….there is always someone out there who needs a smile or a hug. You could be the one who makes their day.
