During their meeting in the evening of Feb. 12, the council for the Town of Falher learned that the municipality generated a surplus of $29,949 for 2018.
The money will be placed into the municipality’s capital reserves.
Council also set April 5 as their meeting to discuss the municipality’s budget for 2018-2020.
Strategic planning session
Council has decided to delay holding their strategic planning session until next fall.
Repair bill for the Smoky River Tourism Building
The Town of Falher will send a bill to Smoky River Tourism in the amount of $945.98. This is because repairs had to made for frozen pipes in the building, which occurred during the Christmas holiday.
Land use bylaw amendment
First readings were given for Bylaw 18-01, minor changes; Bylaw 18-03, adding residential support designation; and Bylaw 18-04, rezoning Lot 11 Block 5 Plan 1322973 (near the former alfalfa building) from M2 heavy industrial to M1 light industrial.
These bylaw amendments will be advertised in the Smoky River Express and a public hearing will be held at a future council meeting.
Council tabled Bylaw 18-02, which is for accessory dwelling units like garage and garden suites. This item will be discussed at a future council meeting.
Code of Conduct
Council approved amendments to the municipality’s code of conduct for councillors.
Council also approved an amendment to the municipality’s travel regulations.
It will incorporate the Canada Revenue Agency’s allowance rate for reimbursement of personal vehicle use, which is 55 cents per km, for all staff.
Recreation
Council approved an amendment use of the Falher Regional Pool.
The birthday party designation will be removed, leaving only the private use designation.
Council also approved an amendment for the Falher campground fees. If someone has an RV and a tent, they will be charged $15 as well for the tent usage.
Council also approved a lease agreement with the Smoky River Chamber of Commerce for use of the gazebo. The lease will be renewed on a year-to-year basis.
AAMD&C meeting
Council approved a motion for the CAO, the mayor and one councillor to attend the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts & Counties’ trade show.
It will be held in Edmonton during March 19-21.
Falher Intermunicipal Library Auditors
Council approved the appointment of Albert and Jean Lemire as the auditors for the Falher Intermunicipal Library.
RCMP planning priorities
Council approved a motion to invite Cpl. Anita Doktor, the acting commander for the McLennan RCMP Detachment, to a future meeting to discuss the RCMP planning priorities.
Emergency plan approved
Council approved the changes to the Smoky River Regional EM Partnership’s emergency plan.
The representatives for the Smoky River Regional EM Partnership met at the Smoky River Fire and Rescue building in Falher during the evening of Feb. 6 to discuss changes to be made.
Each municipal government that is part of the Smoky River Regional EM Partnership must approve the changes as well.
