During their meeting on April 18, council for the Town of Falher approved a motion to install sidewalks, in the future, for the Central Area Subdivision as part of the Municipal Development Plan.
Council also approved a motion to make Lots 12, 13 and 14 of the Central Area Subdivision into five lots, and to subdivide Lot 24 if required. A motion was also passed to not allow the consolidation of any lots in the Central Area Subdivision.
$1 million in capital projects approved for 2016
Council approved the completion of $1,015,294 in capital projects for Phase 1 of the Central Area Subdivision.
This includes curb and gutter, paved overlay for Third Avenue South, from First Street to Second Street.
First reading given for street sweeper purchase
Council approved first reading of Bylaw 16-02, to borrow $400,000 to purchase a street sweeper.
The bylaw will be published in the Smoky River Express, with a public hearing to follow.
Council also approved first reading of Bylaw 16-03, to amend the land use bylaw, to increase site coverage for the Central Area Subdivision, from 40 to 45 per cent total.
It will also be published in the Smoky River Express, with a public hearing to follow at a future council meeting.
Alberta Junior Hockey League exhibition series approved for FRRC use
Council approved a motion to allow the Smoky River Minor Hockey Association to use the Falher Regional Recreation Complex for an Alberta Junior Hockey League exhibition series during the weekend of Sept. 9-11.
Council also approved the spring/summer schedule for the Falher Regional Pool. The schedule will be published later.
Falher Regional Campground
Council approved a motion for the campground attendant to pay all of their own utilities, but will still receive free rent.
This will take effect in 2017.
Weed and pest inspectors approved for 2016
Council approved the appointment of Phillippe Fournier, Raymond Rey, Claire Valiquette and David Skinner as the weed and pest inspectors for 2016.
The M.D. of Smoky River No. 130 council has already approved them.
Friends of the Falher Library letter of support
Council approved a motion to provide a letter of support for the Friends of the Falher Library board.
This letter will be part of their application for the Farm Credit Canada Agri-Spirit Grant.
