Falher council approves increased waste collection and disposal fee for 2017

During their meeting on Nov. 15, council for the Town of Falher approved a $1.50 increase in the waste collection and disposal fee, to become $8 per month and will be effective Jan. 1, 2017.
The Smoky River Waste Commission requested the increase.
Peace officer services agreement
Council approved a three-year contract for the use of the Town of High Prairie’s peace officers.
The Town of McLennan and the Village of Donnelly are to become part of the agreement as well.
Increase in the number of councillors
Council approved all three readings for Bylaw 16-07, to increase the number of councillors from six to seven.
This measure will become effective in time for the 2017 municipal elections in Alberta.
Other approvals
Council gave first reading to Bylaw 16-08, to repeal the Northeast Area Structure Plan. This bylaw was advertised and a public hearing will be held during a later council meeting.
Council also approved a new position, the director of community services, under Policy 108-9. It will replace the recreation coordinator position.
Splash park budget for 2017
Council approved a budget of $10,000 for the splash park. It will open on June 1, 2017 for the summer.
