Alberta 55 Plus Association promotes sports and recreational activities for Albertans 55 years old and over, recognizing that physical activity and social interaction have a positive effect on the wellbeing of the individual and an extension on the wellbeing of the province in general.
All eight zones in the province have an appointed or elected executive and board, representing the areas within each zone. Through these boards, specific local needs are brought to the attention of the 55 Plus Provincial Association.
While an annual 55 Plus membership, starting from January is $30, at events this late in the year, the fee is wavered and non-members are welcome to participate.
“We travel around all the time to the associations within the Area 2, which basically goes from Eaglesham and Tangent to Slave Lake.” says Area 2 director Renee Simard.
“We have fall and summer games and try to keep active all the time. We hold our association meetings in Valleyview.”
