If it’s a birdhouse or other projects desired, then Jacinthe Gervais will put her talents to work for you.
Gervais, who lives in Donnelly, has spent 15 years working on wood projects. One of her first was doll furniture, when she lived in Clairmont.
“My sister-in-law was doing woodwork and I thought it looked like fun,” says Gervais.
She started with simple projects and gradually worked her way into birdhouses. She prefers to work on projects for herself first, to determine how well they will work out, then do projects for others.
Gervais also builds items like tables, picture frames, pantries and jelly cupboards with chicken wire.
“When I started doing it, my imagination took over,” she adds. Her husband also does woodworking projects.
Gervais uses mainly second-hand materials like old plywood, and she ensures they are sterilized before using in her projects. When building a birdhouse, she can add items like beehives, peat moss, fungus, etc., for a more decorative look.
A project like a pantry can take about a week to complete, while she could be finish a birdhouse in as little as a day. Gervais finds woodwork enjoyable and challenging and has no plans to give it up anytime soon.
