A proposed cost of living increase for Town of McLennan staff was tabled to council’s budget meeting Jan. 18.
“I think they should get 1.5 [per cent],” suggested Councillor Sue Delaurier in opening debate at the Jan. 11 meeting.
“They didn’t get anything last year.”
Councillor Marie-Anne Jones pointed out staff did get a 4.5 per cent increase in 2018-19, of which three per cent was benefits.
“It has nothing to do with pay raise,” said Councillor Dwayne Stout of the benefits.
Delaurier added many places have frozen pay raises given the pandemic and tough economic times. Jones added perhaps no increase was appropriate for that reason.
The matter was tabled with no decision made.
