Smoky River Family and Community Support Services – In Focus

Georgia Dubois
FCSS Director
This will be our second year of providing our Smoky River FCSS Christmas Voucher Program 2015 saw such a huge success with the inaugural kick off of the Christmas Hamper Program, but with a new and improved twist!!!

Smoky River FCSS with the assistance of many volunteers and the generosity of the entire region have been providing Christmas Hampers for families for many years.

Part of the Smoky River FCSS’s mandate is to stay in tuned with the changing needs of our residents which in the past few years have included food allergies, ethnicities, special diets to name a few, as well as food manipulation, lack of consistency of items in the food hamper, storage issues etc.

For the second year, we will be offering a Christmas Voucher Certificate.

Families and individuals will enjoy Christmas food of their choice as they will purchase what their families’ need, which will encourage independency and responsibility.

The Voucher Certificate has specific amount corresponding to the number of adults and children in the household; the totality of the Voucher must be used in one shopping trip and there an expiration date of December 31, 2016.

There will be no balance remaining on the Voucher, no cash back, no tobacco products, no gift cards and will specific to food only purchases. Voucher redeeming will be made available at our local grocery stores as well!

Volunteers will still be an integral part of the program by assisting in fund raising activities to cover the cost of the Voucher Certificate.
Gifts for the youth aged 17 and under will still be purchased with funds raised.

We are not able to store non-perishable food items nor are we able to store gifts safely. So again for 2016 we are asking that those whom would like to donate please donate cash, and for a donation of $20 or more you will be able to receive a tax receipt. Please make all cheques payable to the Town of Falher.

We are looking forward to working together with all of the communities and volunteers within the region as continue with this way of helping families and individuals during the Christmas season.

Our Santa donation boxes will be out again this year at various key locations, graciously made by one of our many volunteers!!!
