Children’s fishing derby this Saturday at Winagami Lake

The atmosphere on the breakwater during the fishing derby, while having a definite sense of friendly competition, was mostly a laid-back community event.

The McLennan/High Prairie council for the Knights of Columbus is inviting children and families for their annual fishing derby at Winagami Lake this Saturday, June 11.

“Bring your kids, grandkids and friends to Winagami Lake, and enjoy a fun-filled day with fish tales and many chances to take home a prize,” says organizer Real Garant.

There will be games of human foosball for children of all ages, as well as prizes for the size of number of fish caught in the derby. There will also be draws for donated items, which are open to all ages.

Proceeds from the derby will be used to purchase wheelchair from the Wheelchair Foundation of Canada (www.wheelchairfoundation.ca) and other charities. Some of the wheelchairs will be donated locally to those in need.

For this event to be successful, donations of items like food, supplies and cash would be appreciated. If you or your business/organization is interested in sponsoring the event, please contact Garant at (780) 925-2384 (home) or (780) 925-2021 (work). Or send an email to regarant@serbernet.com.

In spite of uncertain weather with the odd downpour, the Children’s Fishing Derby at Winagmi Lake Provincial Park June 2015, brought out a substantial crowd of young, avid fishing enthusiasts.
