Trustees welcomed Mrs. Debbie Jabbour, MLA for Peace River. Board Chair, Mrs. Chantal Monfette, congratulated and thanked the Government of Alberta for its commitment and support to the Francophone community and francophone education. Mrs. Jabbour and Trustees discussed various topics, including the CSNO’s success and challenges, the importance of equivalence as it pertains to the infrastructure needs of francophone schools and the specific challenges related to busing for rural francophone schools.
2016-2017 Budget
The 2016-2017 preliminary budget was adopted with an anticipated deficit of $280 669. The budget is based on enrolment estimates for 2016-2017.
Concerned by the important deficit in school transportation, the School Board will continue to lobby the Government of Alberta.
CSNO 2016 Bursary
The 2016 CSNO Bursary ($800) was awarded to École Héritage graduate, Mr. Samuel Laroche. The award was presented by Mrs. Chantal Monfette, CSNO Chair, during the graduation ceremony on June 4th, in Falher.
The CSNO will submit the 2016 Bursary recipient, Samuel Laroche, for the national Paul-Charbonneau Bursary (Fondation Eduquer en Français).
Responsibility Pillar – May 2016
The CSNO was pleased with the overall May 2016 Accountability Pillar Results Report which showed “Very High(6)” and “High(2)” results in 8 of the 11 areas assessed in January 2016. The CSNO exceeded the provincial average results in the following areas: safe and caring schools, transition rate (6 years), work preparation, citizenship, parental involvement and school improvement.

CSNO Orientation Day 2016-2017
The 2016 CSNO orientation day for all staff members and Trustees will be held September 23rd, at École Héritage in Falher.
Please note, schools and central office will be closed on this day.
School Transportation at ÉQV
The School Authority mandated the Superintendent to analyze and implement the necessary steps so that busing, managed by the CSNO can be offered at École des Quatre-Vents for the 2017-2018 school year.
2016-2019 Strategic Plan
Trustees adopted its strategic plan for 2016-2019. It will be available on the CSNO’s website.
2017 Nicaragua Trip
The Board approved the request for a humanitarian trip to Nicaragua in March-April 2017 for CSNO Grade 11 and 12 students.
Trustees Report
In June, the Chair, madame Chantal Monfette attended the retirement ceremony for Mr. Henri Lemire, as well as the CEFFA partners meeting, the FCSFA board of directors meeting and the AGM for l’ACFA de Rivière-la-Paix.
Chair, Chantal Monfette, and Vice-Chair, Sylvianne Maisonneuve, attended the École Héritage graduation ceremony on June 4th, while Trustees, Mario Paradis and Thierry Breuls de Tiecken were present for the graduation at École Nouvelle Frontière on June 11th. The CSNO presented speechs, as well as a souvenir gift to the graduates.
Mr. Mario Paradis attended ASBA’S Spring General Meeting (SGM) in Red Deer on June 5, 6 and 7, with the Superintendent, Mrs. Brigitte Kropielnicki. He also attended the TEBA meeting on June 5th.
The Finance Committee comprised of Mr. Olivier Bergeron and Mr. Mario Paradis, met with the Superintendent and the Treasurer on June 10th to review the 2016-2017 budget.
Superintendent’s Report
CSNO Survey
The CSNO has sent a survey to parents, students and teachers to evaluate their level of satisfaction with its schools’ mandate to enhance francophone language and culture and to foster a sense of belonging to the Francophone community. The results will be help evaluate the Board’s objective and strategies.
Three Year Education Plan
For 2016-2017, the Education Ministry is presenting 5 desired outcomes rather than 4, as in the past. The new objective pertains to Inclusive Education: “The Alberta’s education system is inclusive. »
C2 Committee
The Committee met twice this year and the 2015-2016 action plan was updated. The C2 Committee will end on August 30th, 2016, at the same time as the agreement between the Government and the ATA. The Superintendent took the time to thank the Committee members (Linda L’abbé, Julie Desrosiers et Kassandra Lajeunesse) for their participation and commitment over the past two years.
