The 30-member Grade 7 Georges P. Vanier band came to Ecole Providence to perform for the students.
The Providence kids showed a keen response doing a stationary march to a rousing rendition of the Mount Vernon March, which opened the short, impromptu concert.
G.P. Vanier vice principal and music teacher Pam Heckbert gave a few of the Providence kids an opportunity to try their hand at being conductor and the kids appeared to enjoy the power and magic of having the Band immediately respond to every movement of the baton.
A number of parents of band members were also present at the event.
The Vanier students and Pam Heckbert were on their way to Grande Prairie for a marching band clinic and decided to utilize the trip by stopping at Providence to give a performance.
The Providence kids were obviously impressed with the large presence of the 30-piece band and with the epic sound of short, appropriate pieces that along with the opening Mount Vernon March included Aztec Dance, Storm Clouds and Eye of the Tiger.
