On May 1, parish priest Father Eucharius Chuyimagha admitted three Ecole Providence students into the Catholic faith during an 11am school Mass at St. John the Baptist Cathedral in McLennan.

The celebratory Mass also included three students receiving First Communion and three making their First Confession.

“Receiving the sacraments for the first time is always a really positive event not just for those getting baptized and receiving communion but for all students and teachers at the school,” says Providence Principal, Krista Veitch. “Of course, it is also a special day for the parents and families of the students.”

All Ecole Providence students, teachers along with parents, godparents and family members attended the special Mass to share in the experience of the nine children receiving the sacraments.

The students who were baptized are Cashis Emard, Ilias Fowler and Isaiah Fowler.

The first communion students are Paige MacLeod, Alyvia Chavis and Kinsley Bartram-Soto and First Confession students are Amerie Whitehead, Peyton Mitchell and Antoinette Goodswimmer.

Following Mass, Father Eucharius, students and family attended a lunchtime reception at Ecole Providence at which soup and sandwiches, chilli, coffee, juice, ice cream and cake were served.

Ecole Providence student Paige McLeod receives First Communion at St. John the Baptist Cathedral in McLennan on May 1.
