The Wood Buffalo RCMP are continuing the investigation into the sudden deaths of three individuals on January 9, 2018 near Conklin, Alberta.

A mechanical inspection was completed on the vehicle and it was determined that a faulty exhaust system component may have caused exhaust to enter into the vehicle cabin. It is unknown whether or not this was an existing problem or a recent occurrence.

Wood Buffalo RCMP report triple fatality in stopped vehicle

Wood Buffalo, Alberta – On January 9, 2018 at approximately 12:25 p.m. Wood Buffalo RCMP and Emergency Medical Services responded to a call for assistance regarding three persons who were all unresponsive in a vehicle. The vehicle was stopped on the Laguna access road, near Conklin, Alberta.

The 29 year old male driver was unresponsive. The 21 and 22 year old female passengers were also unresponsive. Emergency first aid was provided, however, all 3 occupants of the vehicle were declared deceased at the scene. The three deceased individuals have been transported to hospital.

All possible contributing factors related to this incident are being considered, and the matter remains under investigation.

Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the family, friends, and anyone who has been impacted by this incident. The identity of the deceased individuals will not be released out of respect for the families. Wood Buffalo Victim Services are offering assistance to family, friends, and witnesses.
