Village of Girouxville 2018 Year In Review

Mayor Alain Dion
Village of Girouxville

2018 has come and gone. Spring brought on drainage and flooding issues to our community. A big thank you to the Smoky River Fire Dept. and volunteers, MD of Smoky River employees, Village of Girouxville staff and other volunteers who were involved with the many hours in the control/prevention of this spring’s flooding.

The capital budget included 48th Street Road Improvements – Curb & gutter, storm sewers, drainage and paving; Outdoor sports facility –full cement slab, new lighting and boards; Playground equipment.

48th Street from gravel to curb & gutter, pavement and storm sewers and other road paving repairs was completed with drainage work to be completed in 2019. Due to delays in road construction, the skating rink pad was constructed with completion of the cement pad, new lighting and boards scheduled for the New Year. It is with Girouxville Enhancement Society’s fundraising and dedicated efforts and all who have donated and supported this project that made this project a reality.

Once again, thank you to our Museum volunteers who dedicated their valuable time to the ongoing operation and “Museum Calendar Fundraiser”.

New legislative requirements mandate our municipalities to prepare, adopt and implement Asset Management, Inter-Municipal Collaboration Framework, Inter-Municipal Development Plans, Land Use bylaw updates. Once again, we are working as a collective group. In collaboration with the M.D. of Smoky River #130, Town of Falher, Village of Donnelly and Town of McLennan we have succeeded in accessing funding to implement these new requirements. We continue to participate with our neighboring communities in regional programs that benefit all who live in the Smoky River Region.

We continue to keep you informed. Visit our new website – Girouxville.ca to subscribe to receive our notices.

On behalf of the Village of Girouxville Council, we wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
