The Smoky River Regional Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee holds its organizational meeting

The new Smoky River Regional Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee held their organizational meeting at the Town of Falher administration office in the evening of Nov. 6.

Donald Dumont is the new chairperson and Isaac Kocherla is the vice-chairperson. Dumont represents the M.D. of Smoky River No. 130 on the committee, and Kocherla represents the Town of McLennan.

The other board members are:

. Brian Labrecque for the Village of Donnelly.

. Kelly Elliot for the Village of Girouxville.

. Rene Limoges for the Town of Falher.

. Denise Zawacki, the Associate Medical Clinic in McLennan.

. Rachelle Berube, coordinator for health services (French), Alberta Health Services (she’s also the recording secretary for the committee).

. Barbara Mader, Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, site manager, Alberta Health Services.

. Lynn Florence, director of Smoky River Family and Community Support Services.

. Myrna Lanctot, coordinator.

All physicians practicing in the Smoky River region are also represented on this board.

During the meeting, the board discussed and approved the income statements for September and October.

They also discussed the coordinator’s budget for 2018, which has to be approved by all five municipal governments in the region.

The next board meeting will be at the Town of Falher administration office, at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4.
