Summer youth program
What an exciting summer it is going to be!
Smoky River FCSS is continuing to proudly offer an affordable summer youth program throughout the months of July and August.
This program is available for children ages 6-12 and takes place Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is only $50/week. This fee includes transportation (when required), all activities as well as a snacks and lunch on certain field trip days. Each week will be hosted in the Villages of Donnelly and Girouxville and the Towns of Falher and McLennan.
There will be an exciting new theme for each week of the program in hopes to spike every youth’s interest. The summer youth program gives all children the opportunity to participate in exciting esteem building activities, meet new friends and stay active throughout the summer months. There will be crafts, outdoor activities, games, field trips and so many more exciting things that will take place every week.
This year, we have added a few extra spots to our weekly camps, 17 spots that are available therefore register now to avoid disappointment! All youths are welcomed!
Additionally, FCSS is continuing to offer the “Exciting Adventures” program. “Exciting Adventures” are single day trips for youths ages 10-16. This year we have three different day trips hosted August 7-9.
First, August 7, we will be making a trip to Spirit River where we will be visit the museum and going to the Richardson Pioneer Central Peace Aquatic Center. August 8, we will be spending the day in Whitecourt at the Rotary Park where they have a splash park, slip ‘n’ slide as well as a park. Both of these trips will be $20 which will cover the cost of the transportation and all activities; however youth who attend will need to bring a bagged lunch.
Our last Exciting Adventures trip will be a fun filled day in Grande Prairie where we will putting our brains to the test at the Trapped Room as well as reaching for the skies at the Jump Yard. This trip will be $50 and will include transportation and all activities, however youths are required to bring a packed lunch.
I, Kristina Nolette, am very excited to be the new coordinator for the summer youth program this summer. As an education student, working with youths is a passion of mine. In the past years, I have worked in summer camps in the city and have learnt many new skills to ensure the success of a program. I am excited for the all the fun activities that are planning. The summer youth program provides the youth of the Smoky River region an affordable, safe and caring environment where they can stay active, make new friends and participate in esteem building activities throughout the months of July and August. I am very excited to learn and play alongside the youth of our region throughout the summer months.
The Municipal District of Smoky River No. 130, Town of McLennan, Town of Falher, Village of Donnelly and the Village of Girouxville have made the summer youth program possible. There is also subsidy available that is entirely confidential. Please email Lynn Florence at srfcss@live.ca if this is something of interest.
Our goal is to have every youth have access to this amazing summer program and that money not be a barrier. For more information about our programs, and to stay up to date with what is new and exciting in our region visit our Facebook page “Smoky River FCSS.”
Registration forms are available at the FCSS offices in Falher and McLennan as well as at all of the municipal offices. Please feel free to contact me at the office at (780) 837-2220 or via email at sypsrfcss@outlook.com.
