Smoky River Home Support
The Smoky River FCSS believes that people are our most valuable resource and want to offer services to contribute to the individual and community wellbeing. People are living longer and sometimes need assistance to remain in their home. The Smoky River Home Support Program began in September 2016 and provides supplemental care to seniors so that they can “age in their community”. This support will also be offered to other residents in Smoky River who need assistance after surgery or postnatal or who need assistance because of emotional or mental stress. Occasional help in the home can allow community members to remain in their homes longer with a better quality of life. The focus will always centre on creating and nurturing the clients and families served by providing a care that is respectful and compassionate while recognizing the individuality of the client.
We are very pleased to say that this service, which is designed to promote well-being in our region by providing assistance in the household, enabling ill, disabled or frail people to remain in their own homes in a safe environment has far exceeded our expectations with new clients enrolling all the time.
The objectives of this program are to enhance the independence of people living in the Smoky River region by assisting with light housekeeping or yard work and meal preparation.
We want to help individuals who are discharged from the hospital and require help in their home and support seniors and families when the demands are greater than the family or individual can meet. There will be a fee for these services. This fee will be determined by need and based on income and expenses.
Home support services are meant to help bridge independence, rather than substitute family obligations. It is expected that people will try to utilize their own resources as much as possible. If you are interested in becoming a client or working for this program, please call Jean at Smoky River FCSS at (780) 837-2220.
