Smoky River Family and Community Support Services in Falher is now accepting applications for their Christmas Voucher program.

This is the third year for the program. In 2016, 211 individuals, including children, received assistance, with over $9,000 provided.

“We work all year to raise money,” says Director Lynn Florence. “Any cash donations are welcome.”

The program is open to low-income individuals, single-parent families and families.

Applications are available at municipal offices and FCSS offices in the region.

Recipients receive a voucher with a set amount of money, which is determined by the FCSS office.

Applicants can spend it on food only, at the grocery stores in Falher and McLennan.

Children under 18 receive Christmas gifts as well.

The deadline to apply is Dec. 15. For more information or to make a donation, please call Lynn Florence at (780) 837-2220.

Also, the Knights of Columbus will hold their annual turkey bingo at the Ste. Anne Paroisse in Falher, beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 10.

All proceeds will go to the Smoky River FCSS food hamper.
