The Smoky River Chamber of Commerce held their annual general meeting at the Club Alouette in the evening of April 19.
Several items were on the agenda, including the president’s report. Here are some highlights from outgoing president Val Viens’ report:
“Over the past year, the Smoky River Chamber of Commerce has been working with the tourism group to help keep them going, as well as marking a larger group for the Chamber.
“Joining the groups, I felt would make us bigger and stronger because in the previous years, we have not had enough interest in members joining the board.”
Viens also says, the chamber has had a vision of joining each of the towns and vilalges together, to help each other out.
“We had no idea that the oil industry would impact us in this way. Being stronger together, working together, would help us keep strong right here in our communities.”
Also, the Smoky River Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to the McLennan Chamber of Commerce joining them, to make the area bigger and stronger, she adds.
Also on the agenda, Diane Dentinger read the financial report and it was accepted as presented.
Then Gisele Soucy discussed the auditor’s report and it was also accepted as presented. Gary Braithwaite was the other auditor.
The election of the officers was also held:
. President Sandy Primeau.
. Vice-President Eric Verstappen.
. Secretary/Treasurer Val Viens.
Finally, the directors were chosen: Gisele Soucy, Patty Turnquist, Geoff Turnquist and Jeannette Cinq-Mars.
