On July 24, 2018, Spirit River RCMP arrested and charged two people in relation to stolen property and other offences.
A traffic stop was conducted the same day and police approached a vehicle and it fled. No pursuit was initiated due to public safety. The vehicle was later located in Woking, Alberta stuck in some brush.
A male was arrested at the scene and a female was later located in the area and also arrested. Further investigation led to the discovery of stolen property that was connected to recent vehicle break and enters in Beaverlodge, Grande Cache, and the Grande Prairie area.
The suspects were in possession of several break and enter tools and the vehicle was found to be stolen from Grande Prairie.
Geoffrey Huyghebaert (42), of Grande Prairie, Alberta and Nadelle Thoreson (36), of Sexsmith, Alberta were charged with Criminal Code offences which include:
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Possession of stolen property under $5000
- Possession of stolen property over $5000
- Possession of break-in instruments
Huyghebaert was remanded into custody and Thoreson was released on a recognizance with numerous conditions after judicial hearings. They will be appearing in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Aug. 11, 2018.
