Peace Regional RCMP respond to fatal motor vehicle collision

On February 13th, 2018 at approximately 8:37 p.m. Peace Regional RCMP and Emergency Medical Services responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 2, near the westend of the Peace River Bridge deck, in Peace River, Alberta.

The driver and lone occupant of a tractor trailer was headed eastbound on Hwy 2 and collided head on with a mini-van and then a car that were travelling westbound on Hwy 2. The adult male driver of the minivan was pronounced deceased on scene, the adult female passenger of the minivan was transported to local hospital for serious but not life threatening injuries. The driver of the car suffered serious but not life threatening injuries and was transported to local hospital and was sent to Edmonton Hospital.  The passenger of the car, an 11 year old male child left the scene in ambulance in critical condition and was transported to the Stollery Childrens Hospital in Edmonton.

Highway 2 was temporarily affected on last night while emergency crews were on scene. Emergency crews have completed their investigation at the scene, and both lanes are were open for travel early this morning. The 90th Street underpass below Hwy 2 remains closed.

Peace Regional RCMP along with an RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate. All possible contributing factors related to this collision are being considered.

The RCMP members are in the process of notifying the next of kin. The identity of the individuals involved will not be released out of respect for the families involved. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the family, friends, and all of the people who have been impacted by this tragedy.
