Shawn Oliver has been appointed as the new safety officer for High Prairie School Division.
He brings a wealth of training and experience in the field of safety and has been working in the High Prairie area since 1989, says an HPSSD news release dated Feb. 7.
“Shawn Oliver will be a welcome addition to the school division,” says Tammy Henkel, who chairs the board.
“His varied and extensive skill set will certainly have a positive impact on the division and its staff and students,” says Tammy Henkel, who chairs the board.
Oliver started with the division Jan. 29 and has extensive certification through the Alberta Construction Safety Association, as well as experience in safety program development.
He participated in training for violence threat risk assessment last month. The safety officer position has an overall goal to manage and co-ordinate all aspects of the school division’s health and safety program.
Duties include coordinating all matters related to occupational health and safety at division sites and schools, overseeing all policies, processes, and procedures related to internal and external risk management, overseeing school/site emergency response plans, acting as emergency operations center director for the division, leading the district safety committee, and acting as incident commander for the HPSD Learning Support Centre.
