It is with loving memories and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ralph Udny Lind after a very short battle with cancer.
On a beautiful sunny afternoon in June, Ivy Dorothy Lind was planting her pansies, when she realized it was time to go to the hospital to have her third child.
Ralph Udny was born June 3, 1939, at the Vermilion Hospital.
Ralph started school at the Botwell school, a one-room school, down the road from the farm. He completed his school in Vermilion.
In 1961, Ralph married Dianne Bauer. To this union, three beautiful children were born – Byron, Corina and Dean.
In December 1972, Ralph married Leonna Dumont and their daughter, Nicole, otherwise known as “Chick,” was born in 1980.
In 1973, Ralph and Leonna moved to Stettler. He was employed by several farm equipment dealerships, Hail & Crop Insurance and ended by owning his own consignment lot. Ralph made many wonderful friends in Stettler. The garage behind the house was the gathering place for many happy hours. A lot of rum was consumed and many fishy stories told.
In 2007, Ralph and Leonna retired and moved to Girouxville. They purchased Leonna’s parents’ home quarter of land. Ralph built his dream shop and finally had room to park all his toys.
He loved to maintain an immaculate yard and garden. This yard, however, was a little too large for him to vacuum, like had had always done in Stettler.
Ralph’s true calling and hobby was mechanics. He always had some project on the go. Brennan, his granddaughter, said, “If Poppa couldn’t fix it, then it just couldn’t be fixed.”
Ralph loved covertibles and over the years owned several models. His last purchase was a 1968 burgundy Bonneville convertible. He spent many enjoyable hours cruising with the top down and his favourite song ‘The Great Pretender’ blaring from the stereo.
Ralph will be forever and lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Leonna (Dumont); his children, Byron, Corina (Gerry Woznow), Dean (Randene) and Nicole; five grandchildren and two great-granddaughters: his sister, Iris McNiven and sister inlaw Ada Lind. Ralph will also be remembered by Leonna’s family, Donald (Doris) Dumont, Edna (Denis) Boisvert, Leonard (Diane) Dumont; and sisters-in-law, Edith Dumont and Marilyn Dumont.
Ralph was predeceased by his parents, George Victor and Ivy (Scarfe) Lind; brother, George Udny Lind; brother-in-law, Donald McNiven; his in-laws, Edward and Edith Dumont; brothers-in-law, Gene Dumont and Bob Dumont; and nephew, Shawn Dumont.
Ralph’s funeral took place on July 2, 2016 at the Notre Dames de Lourdes Church in Girouxville, Alberta.
