Twenty-four French speaking health professionals and medical students will be participating in a medical skills exercise in the Smoky River region during the weekend of Oct. 26-28.
This will include starting IV’s and putting on casts. The purpose of this exercise is to give them an appreciation for rural medicine and rural living and how to become more diversified in their skill development.
Myrna Lanctot, the Smoky River Regional Physician Recruitment and Retention Coordinator for the SRRPR&R Committee, highlighted this during their meeting at the Falher town office, which was held in the evening of June 4.
Those participating in the exercise are from the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary, she adds.
Also during the meeting, it was decided that they will keep their website going, as they don’t want to lose the domain name.
The next committee meeting will be held at the Falher town office at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11. The public is invited to attend.
