Smoky River Fire and Rescue received 16 calls for service in January, which Fire Chief Marcel Maure deems to be an average month.

The calls for services included:

. Seven medical calls.

. Seven monitored alarms.

. One motor vehicle collision.

. One other call.

The fire chief adds that the fire department assisted with the birth of a child for the first time ever.

In other news, the fire chief continues to seek funding for the purchase of a UTV, and he will attend all council meetings in the near future, to offer a summary of 2017 and the fire department’s goals for 2018.
