Children and families will soon be able to enjoy the Falher Regional Pool, as it opens on May 22 for public use, swimming lessons and the Smoky River Manatees use.
Preparations are underway, which includes the public works department grinding the rough edges of the pool to make it safer.
Six lifeguards are returning this summer, and they will be joined by two new members.
“They dedicate their time to the kids and we have the only outdoor pool in the region,” says Lynn Farrell, the Director of Community Services for the Town of Falher.
The pool schedule will be announced in the near future.
Registration for swimming lessons has started and those wishing to register should contact Farrell at (780) 837-2247, extension 102, or the pool office at (780) 837-2481.
The last day for the pool will be Aug. 19. The opening was delayed due to the winter weather and renovation work was planned prior to the opening.
However, the renovation work will begin Aug. 20.
Farm Credit Canada is providing $25,000 towards the renovations.
Also, under the provincial government’s Community Facilities Enhancement Program, the Smoky River Manatees Swim Club has received $75,000 towards the work. MLA Marg McCuaig-Boyd has presented a cheque to the club.
In other news, the Falher campground opened on May 1 and will remain open until Sept. 30.
Call Franklin Padua at (780) 837-6817 to book a space, and call Farrell at the Town office for shelter bookings.
