The Falher Pirates gave their fans back-to-back wins during the Remembrance Day long weekend, first against the Valleyview Jets and then the Spirit River Rangers.

The Pirates hosted the Jets on Nov. 10 and won the game by a score of 12-5. Shots on net for the game were 55-30 in favour of the Pirates.

The Rangers came to town on Nov. 12 and they appeared to ready to play tough, as they always do. Thomas Ward-Cardinal opened the scoring in the first period, with two goals.

But the Pirates turned the tables later. Dallas Brochu scored on the power play at 14:59. Just two minutes later, Denis Rochon scored and tied the game 2-2.

The Rangers edged ahead again early in the second period, as Trevor Mazurek scored on the power play.

But once again, the Pirates came from behind. Kallen Eckstein scored at 16:19 and Dave Lawrence scored at 17:41.

The score was 4-3 in favour of the Pirates at the end of the second period.

Neither team could get the edge for most of the third period.

The only thing of consquence was Dan Aubin’s double minor at the nine-minute mark. He received two minutes for hooking and two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct.

However, the Rangers weren’t able to capitalize on this penalty and the Pirates staved off a tie.

With less than two minutes to play, the Rangers pulled their goalie and put an extra attacker on the ice.

Simultaneously, Jeff Chalifoux of the Pirates received a two-minute penalty for tripping, with just 33 seconds to play.

The Rangers tried several attempts against the Pirates’ net with their two-man advantage.

However, Brandon Bogdanek of the Pirates was able to get hold of the puck and fire it into the empty Rangers’ net.

The final score was 5-3 for the Pirates. Shots on goal for the game were 34-30 in favour of the Rangers.

The next home game for the Pirates was Nov. 19, when they hosted the Grimshaw Huskies.
