On Friday May 13, the students of Ecole Providence put on an ice cream sale to do their part to raise money for those dispossessed by the Fort McMurray Fire.

The kids were excited to participate and to help their fellow Albertans, “those who had to run away because of fire.”

The kids raised approximately $200, which will be added to a general fund being raised and distributed through the offices of the Edmonton Catholic Church.

Bishop Paul Terrio, Catholic Bishop of St. Paul diocese, which includes Fort McMurray, had earlier expressed his gratitude that, remarkably, with tens of thousands evacuated from the city, there were no injuries or loss of life.

Bishop Terrio described that as a major achievement when thanking all involved in the firefighting and evacuation emergency.

Parents and people from the community dropped by Providence to support the students’ fundraiser and the teachers also contributed to the cause.
