Red Silhouette Program
Some of you may have been wondering why there are red statues of fictitious people in various locations within the Smoky River Region and Birch Hills.
Crystal Bois Marschner our Youth/Family Program at Smoky River FCSS has brought to our region the Red Silhouette Program for the month of November. November is Family Violence Prevention Month in Alberta.
The Red Silhouette Project is an exhibit of life-sized red wooden silhouettes. Each represents someone who was murdered by their intimate partner.
The objectives of the Initiative are:
. To remember…by honouring those who were murdered by their partner.
. To create awareness…by sharing information in our communities, Provinces and territories about the nature and extent of relationship violence.
. To promote action…by profiling local resources that support those coping with violence in their lives and by encouraging community and government action to end all forms of violence in our society.
This year, we have placed the Red Silhouettes at the Town offices in McLennan, and Falher, and the Village of Donnelly and Girouxville offices, the M.D. of Smoky River office as well as the RCMP station and the Post office in Guy. Birch Hills has also accepted a silhouette at Dolly’s in Eaglesham.
There is also Domestic abuse information at each of the Red Silhouette statues available to everyone who would like to know where to for help. FCSS office is always available to help peoples in these difficult situations.
Should you have any questions or are a business location who would like to have a silhouette at your place of business please contact Crystal at the FCSS office (780) 837-2220.
