During their meeting on December 10, the council for the Town of Falher agreed to increase utility rates for 2019.
All subsidies are withdrawn, except for the five per cent water loss and refuse bin subsidy. Residents are encouraged read their January utility bills for more information.
Council has agreed to donate to the Smoky River KidSport Committee, $1,105 for the use of the Falher Regional Recreation Complex, for that organization’s adult hockey tournament fundraiser.
New Energy Efficiency Education Grant Program
Council approved a motion for the municipality to apply for the New Energy Efficiency Education Grant Program. The municipality will do so on behalf of the other four municipalities.
Alberta Bilingual Municipal Association
Council moved to request that the ABMA remain unincorporated, thereby avoiding the requirement of regulations for incorporation and permitting voting members to be non-elected officials.
Council approved the purchase of new accounting software from iCity. There will be no support for the municipality’s existing software beyond 2019.
Council approved the Request for Proposal of Prairie Disposal for curbside recycling for a one-year term, at a rate of $7.67 per user.
Council approved the Smoky River Regional Economic Development’s 2019 budget, in the amount of $120,000. The Town of Falher’s share of this budget is $21,207.65.
All five municipalities have to approve the budget and their contributions as well.
